What is
Neuromonitoring
Neuromonitoring, short for Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring (IONM), is the capability to swiftly and efficiently detect sudden neurological problems during a surgical procedure, and therefore intervene before the problem persists and becomes permanent. Under the umbrella of Clinical Neurophysiology, intraoperative neuromonitoring is the merging of neurology and physiology. It is the study of nervous system functions – brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves and sensory organs.
To do so, Rampart’s clinicians not only alert the surgeon of a possible complication. Instead, they continuously read and interpret bioelectrical signals in real-time. A thorough elaboration of causes is performed if a signal change occurs. Then, information is quickly communicated to the surgeon so they know precisely where to look for. Consequently, corrective maneuvers can be applied promptly and before a complication becomes permanent.
Unlike any other centers in Quebec, Rampart Neurophysiology offers technical and professional services in intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring. At the technical level, Rampart is composed of technologists certified by the “Ordre des Technologues en Imagerie Médicale, en Radiologie et en Électrophysiologie Médicale (OTIMROEPMQ)”. Each technologist undergoes a minimum of 6 months of extensive training only offered by Rampart Neurophysiology.
The technical training and professional supervision are guaranteed by Dr. Sebastien Fournier, Board-Certified Clinical Neurophysiologist, diplomate of the American Board of Neurophysiologic Monitoring (ABNM). Together, Rampart’s clinicians possess unparalleled technical and clinical skills in Canada. This skillset allows for optimal interaction with the surgeon and anesthesiologist, leading to the best possible surgical outcome.
